City Nature Challenge 2021: Melbourne - Eastern Metropolitan Area

Eastern Region councils (Boroondara, Knox, Manningham, Maroondah, Monash, Stonnington and Whitehorse) participated in the global event "City Nature Challenge 2021", with 419 cities across 44 countries taking part in the Challenge.

Local community members were encouraged to explore their natural surrounds and take pictures of wild plants and animals between the 30th April to the 3rd May and upload it to iNaturalist to showcase the amazing biodiversity in the East.

Globally there were 1,270,767 observations made (uploaded) and 45,300+ species recorded, with 52,777 people participating.

• 7,943 observations were uploaded
• 332 community members uploaded observations
• 1,190 species were recorded
• 375 community members helped identify sightings
