Gender Equality & Preventing Family Violence

Baby Makes 3 video

Baby Makes 3 is a health promotion initiative that provides support to new parents and shapes attitudes and social norms by challenging outdated gender expectations of becoming a parent.

The Baby Makes 3 program was featured in the launch of the Free From Violence Second Action Plan, from the Victorian Department of Families, Fairness & Housing.

The Second Action Plan marks the mid-point of Victoria’s 10-year plan to break the cycle of family violence and violence against women in the places Victorians live, work, learn and play.

The video explains how Baby Makes 3 works to build equal and respectful relationships for families who are becoming parents for the first time, and highlights its focus on challenging the rigid gender stereotypes and social norms associated with parenting.

As well as being featured in the Action Plan launch, Baby Makes 3's 'Applying a Gender Equality Lens to Childbirth and Parenting Education Training' has recently received CPD (Continuing Professional Development) endorsement from the Australian College of Midwives (ACM).

This endorsement helps to promote the training as a valuable and reputable resource for midwives and Childbirth & Parenting Education Coordinators and Educators. It also demonstrates Baby Makes 3's value in embedding gender equality principles in antenatal and maternity services, and how it supports the workforce to promote gender equality.
