Change our Game - AFL Outer East Women in Leadership
The AFL Outer East Women's Advisory Group was formed in September 2020 and is represented by women from netball and football clubs in the league, the Umpires Association, and Eastern Health - Health Promotion.
The group's purpose is:
- to raise the profile of women in the league
- promote female inclusion, and
- address matters affecting female football and netball club members and volunteers.
In November 2020 the Group delivered two webinars aimed at building capacity and encouraging women to step into leadership positions. Women leaders from across the region shared their experiences to inspire others. A key note presentation from Lisa Alexander, former Head Coach of the Australian Diamonds was also a highlight of the webinars.
A total of 44 participants attended from 22 clubs including players, coaches, committee members, umpires and spectators. Participants hoped to gain confidence, insight and inspiration, practical tips and strategies as well as knowledge in different leadership styles. All participants (100%) enjoyed the webinars with many noting an interest to attend similar events in the future.
There is a continued need to connect and support relationship building to establish a strong league of women leaders in the AFL Outer East. A networking opportunity will be offered in 2022 for attendees to build relationships in person, discuss everyday challenges within clubs and how to overcome them.
