Free to Be Me (F2BM) - Book Review Tool

The Free to Be Me Book Review Tool from Access Health & Community is designed to help select books that challenge gender stereotypes.

Stereotypes can be harmful, as they can impact on the way children think and feel about themselves, and how they interact with others. The tool can also help to select books that embrace diversity beyond gender including race, culture and ethnicity, sexual orientation and ability.

If you do have books that are less diverse or inclusive, rather than throwing them out this tool can help you to have conversations with children about how the books could be more gender diverse and inclusive.

The Free to Be Me Book Review Tool is available as an online tool below, and for an in-depth look at the Free To Be Me program which is improving gender equity in early childhood centres, click here
