Leaders For Change Program 2022

The Leaders For Change program 2022 has come to an end, but not without many achievements over the last few months.

The youth leadership program, led by FVREE spanned over three months and saw a collective of passionate, capable and influential young people engage in workshops that explored a range of topics including gender equity, activism and violence prevention.

The program was hosted weekly at the Boroondara Youth Hub, where the group would come together, build connections and deep dive into discussions that focused on combatting gender inequality within their local community.

As part of this program, the young people organised and hosted an event during the 16 Days of Activism. The event was hosted at the Boroondara Youth Hub where the young leaders presented on all things activism, gender equality and consent.

The night was full of thought-provoking discussions and activities that engaged the community in conversations about equality and respect.

Fifty-three people were in attendance with representation from young people, the Department of Justice and Community Safety Victoria, the Department of Education, Eastern Community Legal Centre, Women’s Health East and Boroondara, Monash and Manningham Council.

The audience’s reflections included:

• ‘It was powerful to see what the young leaders had learnt and how they intend to apply their learnings’
• ‘The event sparked new thoughts and ideas on ways to empower young people to get involved with the development and delivery of respectful relationships in schools’
• ‘I’m feeling more inspired than ever to progress gender equality’
• ‘All the young leaders spoke so well and presented such thought provoking information’.

Reflections from the Leaders For Change participants:

• ‘It felt so empowering to be able to deliver such an important event’
• ‘This was a true example of youth activism’
• ‘I feel so proud of everything we have accomplished over the last two months, and to see it come together tonight’.

A big congratulations to all of the Leaders For Change participants for their commitment to the program and their growth over the three months.
