#MissMakesCode program

Girl Geek Academy partnered with Women’s Health East to deliver the #MissMakesCode program to address the under-representation of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) studies and careers. The program educates and inspires girls as young as 5 to explore and continue with STEM education while empowering them with gender equality principles.

The project teaches a variety of practical skills such as coding, trouble shooting and cyber safety, and introduces role models in the home, with each under 18 attendee bringing along a female adult. The 18+ participants participate in an independent activity with Women’s Health East raising awareness, knowledge of the issue of gender inequality and how it relates to STEM, and brainstorm practical take home tips for gender equitable action.

Local government partners, Yarra Ranges Council, Maroondah Council, Monash Council and Whitehorse Council hosted the sessions within their respective areas.

Proudly supporting the Together for Equality and Respect Partnership (TFER)
