The Gender Equality Clothesline Project

We all have a role in building community understanding and acting to prevent violence against women including local community members. An important part of mobilising this local action is engaging people of different ages, genders and backgrounds in conversations about gender equality and supporting action for those community members who decide to be part of this work.

Another important part is providing opportunities for communities to take action together. The Gender Equality Clothesline Project aims to build on the great opportunities community houses have to encourage local conversations and support local action on gender equality as part of a region-wide co-ordinated approach. This project aims to build on the work already being done by community houses and strengthen the region’s approach to preventing violence against women.

Community Houses are engaged and interested in prevention work. They also have expertise and relationships, both individually and collectively, which can add to the regional mix of mutually reinforcing actions for prevention of violence against women. Particularly promising regarding collaborative learning and impact is Community Mobilisation for prevention of violence against women.
