The PLEDGE Knox Local Champions for Gender Equality Awards

Every year PLEDGE (People Linking to Embraced and Develop Gender Equality) presents awards to individuals associated with the City of Knox who have made a significant contribution towards achieving greater equality in the City of Knox, whether through a business, organisation or individually.

Unfortunately, the 2020 awards were cancelled due to COVID restrictions and will now be combined with the 2021 awards. The PLEDGE committee hope to hold these awards in late November, early December at the Knox Civic Centre.

The three finalists for the 2020/2021 awards are:

  • Alice Garrick from Foothills Care
  • Karen Little from the Boronia Hawks Football Netball Club
  • Candyce Wright from the Boronia Hawks Football Netball Club

Congratulations to these three finalists and the organisations they represent!

Over the years, finalists and winners of the awards have included:

  • A Knox Hairdresser who offered free haircuts to women experiencing domestic violence.
  • A volunteer who started a girls’ skateboarding group.
  • A librarian who helped promote books presenting characters in a way that challenges gender stereotypes.
  • A cricket club member who, after completing a course with Eastern Domestic Violence Outreach Service, became instrumental in putting Family Violence on the club’s agenda and calling out sexist behaviour.

Check out the PLEDGE webpage and Facebook page for more information on the upcoming awards.
