About Art & Sole

Art and Sole aims to increase walking and active travel in Lilydale through the celebration of:

  • creative and cultural expression
  • local history, and
  • social connection.

Starting at Poyner Reserve, community members can explore and experience the Wurundjeri art sculpture and story of Bour-deet (‘Cumbungi’ in Woi-wurrung).

Seven wayfinding signs feature tailored directional signage and QR codes linked to a dedicated landing page. Community members can enjoy the journey around Lilydale West, reading or listening to stories of the rich Wurundjeri culture and local history.

The Art and Sole landing page features 9 mapped local walks connecting with other well-known trails and local services in Lilydale and provides community members with information related to walking for good health, and opportunities to get active in the Yarra Ranges.

Objective

The goal of Art and Sole is to increase active travel and recreational walking in Lilydale West using arts and creative approaches.

The project focused on three key messages and primary objectives:

  • Explore - Increase accessibility and knowledge of walking routes to the station and town centre.
  • Connect - Increase the number of artistic indicators to create a sense of place and culture.
  • Move - Increase knowledge and awareness of walking and its health benefits.

Project Launch

The official project launch is planned for Wednesday 12th October between 10am – 12 noon at Poyner Reserve, Lilydale. All community members are welcome to attend the project unveiling.

Art and Sole is a VicHealth funded, joint project between Inspiro, Yarra Ranges Council and key community stakeholders, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Aboriginal Corporation and the Lilydale Historical Society.
