Food Sensitive Planning and Urban Design project
Using the Heart Foundation's 'Food-Sensitive Planning and Urban Design' (FSPUD) framework, an audit was conducted of Maroondah and Yarra Ranges to inform recommendations to improve the food system in the Outer East, and provide a 'vision for the future' at a higher urban planning level.
Key opportunities identified from the 'vision for the future' were used to formulate recommendations and were grouped as:
- Regional
- Maroondah-specific
- Yarra Ranges-specific, and
- Areas for future research.
An example of the recommendations included:
- Strengthening partnerships
- Strengthening integration of the food system in council policies and plans
- Supporting local food businesses
- Support for current food-related initiatives
- Strengthening sustainable options for waste and re-use of food
- Advocating for planning strategies to support food-sensitive activities.
