Promoting healthier masculinities in the EMR for the prevention of violence against women steering group

The Promoting Healthier Masculinities Steering Group includes a number of partners across the Eastern Region of Melbourne. The Group aims to promote and seed efforts to engage with men and boys that promote healthier masculinities for the prevention of violence against women.

From 2020 - 2021 the group focused on how they could promote healthier masculinities throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. A number of exciting events and initiatives across the Eastern Region were delivered. The steering group members were also heard from a range of guest speakers from organisations such as VicHealth, Movember and The Men's Project as part of the Jesuit Social Services.

The steering group seeded 9 activities and events across the Eastern Region with an estimated reach over 8300, including:

  • Engaging Fathers Systems Mapping Project
  • Supporting Fathers and Respectful Relationships Forum and Workshop
  • Community Leaders Proposal and Initial Working Group Meeting
  • Mental Health and You Forum.

One of these activities also included the development of the Engaging Men: Reducing Resistance and Building Support guide in partnership with Assoc. Prof. Michael Flood from Queensland University of Technology and Brianna Myors from EDVOS. Refer to the Resource below to find out about all activities and events.
