Preventing Alcohol Harms

Communities That Care Knox

Communities That Care Knox (CTC Knox) is a community based initiative promoting the healthy social development of children and young people, by harnessing the resilience and strength of parents and families to reduce adolescent alcohol consumption.

Smart Generation Plus

Smart Generation is a strategy that is designed to address the community risk factors that normalise alcohol consumption and culture and lead to harm for children and young people. CTC Knox works with schools, community, parents and young people to ensure community laws, cultural norms, and attitudes support young people to delay alcohol consumption until the age of 18.

Thriving Families Strategy

CTC Knox are focused on strengthening families through their Thriving Families strategy. Reframing perceptions (and language) around parenting can help to address the stigma that often comes with seeking help for parenting, as this can be a barrier to parents and families seeking help or support for raising their children.

Rather than focusing on ‘parenting’, focusing on child development and putting children first allows for differing parent styles and supports parents to understand what works for children to develop in healthy and positive ways. Through social marketing and social media, CTC Knox are working towards changing perceptions of parenting for the future.
