Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) resources

Every year in November, the World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) is held as an annual global campaign to improve awareness and understanding of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and encourage best practices among the public.

What is AMR?

Antimicrobial Resistance occurs when pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites adapt over time and become resistant to medications. This poses a major public health challenge globally, impeding infectious disease management in communities which increases risk (and rate) of disease transmission, healthcare costs, and risk of complications for the most vulnerable individuals.

How can we address this issue?

Healthcare professionals play a pivotal role in collaborating with their communities to educate patients and families on the appropriate use of medications and to pioneer effective strategies against the overuse of antimicrobial treatments.

The links provided below include a whole range of resources for health professionals and community to help everyone learn and raise awareness about AMR. These include e-learning modules for health professionals, social media collateral, printable documents such as factsheets, quizzes, activities and more.
