Guide to Supporting Patients who Fast During Ramadan

Every year, the Muslim community observes the Islamic lunar month of Ramadan which is signified by community events and traditional practices, which includes fasting from sunrise to sunset every day of the month.

Prolonged periods of fasting can have a number of health effects, especially on people with pre-existing health conditions.

To address this concern, NEPHU, in collaboration with the Islamic Council of Victoria (ICV) and Australian Islamic Medical Association (AIMA), has developed two key resources.

These aim to provide guidance on Ramadan-related practices, safe medical practices to employ, appropriate religious exemptions and more to support health professionals, patients and the wider Muslim community and to ensure they can practice their traditions safely to maintain their health and wellbeing.

Please feel free to download, print and share with your colleagues and communities.
