Ribbons of Green program

Ribbons of Green program aims to encourage the use of indigenous plants to restore habitats across the Yarra Ranges. Free native plants are offered for private properties (over 1 hectare), schools and community groups through the Yarra Ranges Council.

Since its inception the program has provided plants to around 500 private land owners, 69 schools and 30 reserves.

The program is helping to:

  • restore natural habitat
  • supply landholders with indigenous native plants and planting equipment
  • ongoing training and advice, and
  • create valuable partnerships with local residents.

Applications are taken before the end of September each year, and plants are distributed the following May to July.
