Call It Out - Be an Active Bystander

Call It Out, Be an Active Bystander is an innovative, community-based gender equity initiative funded by Respect Victoria and Safe and Equal, 16 days of Activism 2022, as a Grassroots Initiative.

Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected and supported in their daily lives, whether that is at work, at their sporting club, in the community or at home.

Recent survey findings indicate that despite positive changes such as improved accessibility, inclusivity and culture across sporting settings, women and girls continue to face barriers to participation, including the use of gender stereotyped language, sexist behaviour and inequality relating to importance and value of women and girls’ sport.

Inspiro Community Health has created the Call it Out cards and resources aimed to increase knowledge and awareness of, and aid implementation of Active Bystander action in organisational and sporting club settings through the development and dissemination of pocket-sized cards and supportive resources.

Resources such as the card, an A4 flyer and A3 poster are tailored to organisational and sporting club settings and feature responses to scenarios commonly experienced within these environments.

The aim of the Call It Out, Be an Active Bystander project is to enable greater confidence and capacity for all individuals to be Active Bystanders and challenge disrespectful language or behaviour towards women and girls in all settings.

Organisations and sporting clubs are welcome to use these resources. Please send your request to the email below.
