Gender Equality & Preventing Family Violence

Together for Respect at Home campaign

The coronavirus pandemic presented new, unprecedented concerns and challenges for the local community. In 2020, FVREE (formerly EDVOS) the specialist family violence service in the Eastern Metropolitan Region had already seen an increase of family violence incidents and referrals as a result of COVID-19.

MAY 2020

In response to this complex issue, local organisations in the Eastern Metropolitan Region of Melbourne developed a social media campaign called Together for Respect at Home which aimed to promote ways to stay safe, healthy, connected and respectful while at home.

This campaign took a collaborative and evidence-based approach to prevent violence against women during the pandemic through promoting respectful relationships and positive mental health and wellbeing strategies.

To support the implementation of the campaign, the Together for Respect at Home - Social Media Guide was developed with all the relevant information to support organisations in promoting and sharing the campaign on their own social media platforms.

AUGUST 2020

To continue providing important messages around respectful relationships and safety, the campaign released translated materials in:

  • Mandarin
  • Cantonese
  • Hindi, and
  • Hakha Chin.

New resources included a video, posters with specialist family violence supports and services, social media tiles and an email banner.

DECEMBER 2020

The Together For Respect At Home working group re-developed some tiles promoting healthy and respectful relationships for local organisations to promote and share on their social media platforms during the Christmas/Holiday period.

APRIL 2021

The Together For Respect At Home working group hosted an online launch event on April 27 to celebrate their latest resource - a video promoting respect in our home and in our communities.

The event included community members involved in the making of the video, as well as special guest speakers:
