Graceful Smiles project

The Graceful Smiles project completed by EMROHN took a holistic look at a Residential Aged Care Facilities systems process and oral health supportive environments. As part of the Graceful Smiles Project, face to face training was provided to all Staff and Management, a bathroom audit was conducted of the residents bathrooms to determine what oral health products the residents were using and then a poster was developed which is now displayed in each residents bathroom depicting recommended oral health products, along with tooth and denture care tips and information on accessing dental services including special needs dentistry.

The Network interviewed the residents to see what their perceived oral health needs were and then compared these to the dentists findings once the Dental screenings of the residents were completed. The EMROHN also reviewed the Residential Aged Care Facilities menu in collaboration with the Healthy Eating Advisory Service (HEAS) and linked them in to a Dietitian to support them with incorporating HEAS’ recommendations.

EMROHN presented on the Graceful Smiles project at the Regional Dental Health Services Forum and at the 3rd International Dentistry and Oral Health Conference in London in September 2019.
