Smile Squad program

“Smile Squad” provides free annual oral health examinations and free follow up care for all children attending Victorian public schools.

The Smile Squad program delivers on a Victorian Government commitment to improve the dental health of all Victorian public primary, secondary and special school students.

Following the successful proof of concept phase in 2019 and initial commencement in early 2020, Smile Squad was paused in March 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Services resumed in selected regional schools in Term 4, 2020 and the program is now expanding to schools in other parts of the state in Term 2, 2021.

EACH has rolled out Smile Squad services to schools in the Yarra Ranges region in Term 2, 2021, and will shortly commence services in Maroondah and Knox LGAs.

Smile Squad is the Victorian Government’s only school dental program, offering free care, from initial examinations to general treatment, excluding cosmetic dentistry.

The Department of Health and Dental Health Services Victoria (DHSV) are leading the development of Smile Squad and the service delivery component of the program is being managed by DHSV.

Smile Squad is committed to the high standards of safety and quality of all public dental services. Smile Squad is accredited to all relevant National Safety and Quality Health Services (NSQHS) standards. These standards provide a nationally consistent statement of the level of care consumers can expect from health service organisations.
