COVID-19/Indigenous Poster Competition

The EACH Health Promotion Team and the EACH Ngarrang Gulinj-al Boordup Team (Aboriginal Health & Wellbeing) asked all primary school aged children in Knox and Maroondah to yarn with their friends, teachers, families or a local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community member, and enter a design for the COVID-19/Indigenous poster competition.

The poster needed to convey at least one key message on how to slow the spread of COVID-19 in the local community and also use a cultural lens to incorporate learnings and perspectives of Aboriginal culture and history.

A total of 47 posters were submitted, with two winners and four runners up chosen. The two winners received a framed copy of their poster, and will have the opportunity to work with a graphic designer to enhance their poster, bring it to life digitally, and be showcased at their school, local council and various locations across the community.

All students who entered the competition will receive their very own copy of a 'poster book', a collection of all students posters. Students can show their family and school how they contributed to spreading the message to slow the spread of COVID-19 and also creatively using a cultural indigenous lens.

This project was funded by Reconciliation Victoria with the aim of creating opportunities for non-indigenous people to build relationships with their local Indigenous community, form networks and learn about Indigenous culture and history.
